The Department of Mathematics and Science Education, Division of Physics Education, operates to meet the need for physics teachers in secondary education institutions and to provide opportunities for those who wish to pursue an academic career in this field at universities. The Physics Teaching program admits students based on the MF2 score from the Higher Education Entrance Exam (LYS) and offers a four-year undergraduate education. Courses are conducted on a semester basis.
In this program, there are 2 Professors, 2 Associate Professors, and 1 Assistant Professor. In addition to compulsory field courses, students are offered elective courses related both to the field and to general culture, tailored to their interests and abilities. Theoretical courses are supported with laboratory practices. Computer courses provide applied and up-to-date knowledge, and students can make use of the available computer laboratories.
Furthermore, to help students prepare for the teaching profession, the program includes one semester of school experience and one semester of teaching practice (internship) in secondary schools. Students who wish to conduct academic research also have the opportunity to pursue graduate studies. After obtaining sufficient scores from the ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam) and foreign language exams, and succeeding in field knowledge exams at the Institute of Science, they can enroll in graduate programs (Master’s and/or PhD) and build an academic career. In addition, graduates of the Division of Physics Education can work as teachers in public or private schools as well as in private teaching institutions.
